DTS recently celebrated a major milestone: they turned 30. DTS hit the market with a giant ‘roar’ in 1993 when they helped create a movie experience like no other with “Jurassic Park.” Since then, DTS has continued to push the boundaries of audio, beyond cinema, to bring better entertainment experiences into homes around the world.
At IFA 2023, DTS is showcasing three of its pivotal solutions, DTS Play-Fi, DTS:X and IMAX Enhanced (which is a partnership between IMAX Corporation and DTS).
DTS Play-Fi
Starting off strong, DTS Play-Fi officially announced at IFA that it is launching immersive audio support for DTS Play-Fi® Home Theater, the only whole-home wireless solution to support 12 channels of discrete sound, for a higher-fidelity listening experience. Originally launched in 2021 with support for 5.1 surround sound, this latest update enables playback of immersive sound formats like DTS:X, Dolby Atmos and IMAX Enhanced from DTS Play-Fi compatible TVs to discrete speaker layouts, up to 7.2.4. DTS Play-Fi Home Theater eliminates the need for unsightly wiring, TV dongles and AV receivers by re-using the Wi-Fi radio built into every smart TV. TPV will be the first partner to launch the latest DTS Play-Fi Home Theater enhancements on select 2023 Philips TVs, which are expected to be released in the coming year.
Aside from 12 channel support, DTS Play-Fi also has made headway with the number of device partners including Hisense, TPV, Loewe, Vestel and many more.
IMAX Enhanced
DTS:X immersive audio puts consumers into the center of a larger-than-life audio experience everywhere they listen, watch and play. DTS:X empowers the IMAX Enhanced experience, combining the best of IMAX and DTS. Together, the two companies bring the world’s most immersive entertainment experience into the home and devices everywhere. Recently, it was announced that IMAX Enhanced was expanding from the living room to PCs. The new HP Envy x360 15.6 laptop was announced in late April 2023 and offers a seamless way for consumers to enjoy the benefits of IMAX Enhanced. This is the first IMAX Enhanced certified PC and represents a major milestone in the world of mobile home entertainment. The PC will be on display at IFA.
In addition to exciting device updates, DTS will be demoing new IMAX Enhanced titles from Sony Pictures Entertainment that are now available through streaming service Rakuten TV. Titles such as “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” “Blade Runner 2049” and “Equalizer 2” are all currently available on Rakuten TV.
