More than 100 meetings, 40 pieces of press coverage and multiple award wins capped off an eventful IFA for Xperi, as approximately 150,000 attendees from more than 130 countries met in Berlin from Sept. 1 – 5. Now in its 99th year, IFA has been integral to the transformation in technology, bringing together industry pioneers and innovative partners all under one roof.
“IFA is a key show for the European consumer electronics market as many key buying decisions for the following year are made. This year Xperi had a very successful show winning multiple awards for both Smart TVs ‘Powered by TiVo’ and DTS Play-Fi. We were able to show the industry how Xperi creates extraordinary experiences at home and on the go, for millions of people around the world. To meet rising consumer expectations for high-quality, seamlessly integrated experiences, we work with partners across the digital value chain to align ecosystems and support connected homes, connected cars and our connected lives,” said Gabriel Cosgrave, general manager of Xperi’s EMEA region and senior vice president, global sales.
TiVo’s OS Transformation
At IFA 2022, Xperi introduced its new operating system, TiVo OS, designed for smart TV OEMs that are looking for an unbiased operating system making it easier for people to find, watch and enjoy what they love, on their terms.
Since TiVo’s original announcement a year ago, three TV OEMs have adopted TiVo OS for their 2024 smart TV models with plans to ship across both Europe and/or the U.S.
- Sharp will launch smart TVs Powered by TiVo as part of a multi-year, multi-million-unit agreement. The first TVs are expected to ship in 2024 starting in Europe.
- Vestel is expected to have its OS powered by TiVo in the European market for the upcoming holiday season.
We’re not the only ones to see the value TiVo OS brings to the smart TV market. TiVo OS was recognized repeatedly as one of the top offerings seen at IFA 2023, including:
- Best of IFA from Screen Rant
- Best in Show from Trusted Reviews
- Best of Show (Smart TV Tech) from TechRadar
“TiVo OS is set to shake up the television industry with its tailored entertainment experience, featuring powerful search functions and personalized recommendations.”- Screen Rant
Taking Xperi On The Road
In the first half of 2023, Xperi and BMW Group announced the deployment of the DTS AutoStageTM video service, Powered by TiVoTM, in their BMW 5-Series, which is expected to roll out later this year. This video service brings an award-winning, content-first experience to the connected car, delivering free premium content across live TV, news, sports, movies and more.
Video in the car enables consumers to catch up on content while they are charging a vehicle, waiting in a line, or taking a quick break during errands. Xperi’s content partners – such as Bloomberg Television, Pluto TV, Tubi, Yahoo and local German provider Joyn – offer this opportunity to watch in-dash entertainment in an environment that is mutually beneficial to the consumer and the car brand.
Xperi and BMW worked together to have a 2024 BMW 5 Series onsite at IFA for demos of the new video features. It served as quite the draw for visitors and customers alike.
DTS Play-Fi flies high with new 12 channel offering
This year DTS announced the official launch of immersive audio support for DTS Play-Fi® Home Theater, the only whole-home wireless solution to support 12 channels of discrete sound, for a higher-fidelity listening experience. Originally launched in 2021 with support for 5.1 surround sound, this latest update enables playback of immersive sound formats like DTS:X, Dolby Atmos and IMAX Enhanced from DTS Play-Fi compatible TVs to discrete speaker layouts, up to 7.2.4. DTS Play-Fi Home Theater eliminates the need for unsightly wiring, TV dongles, and AV receivers by re-using the Wi-Fi radio built into every smart TV.
DTS Play-Fi was also recognized as a top IFA solution by multiple outlets, including:
- Best of IFA from Screen Rant
- Best in Show from Trusted Reviews
- Top Five at IFA from Stereo Net
“With this latest update, DTS really does seem to be positioning itself as the best option for wireless surround sound and if you can finally have the choice of getting rid of those cables without compromising on quality, then we’re all for it.”- Tech Radar
