Xperi at NAB Show 2025

24 4 月, 2025 Xperi

The annual NAB Show in Las Vegas always brings together the best and brightest of the global broadcaster community. This year was no different with 55,000 attendees from 160 countries coming to explore the future of media and entertainment. Xperi was excited to be there, continuing its longtime partnership with the show by highlighting its latest solutions in radio and automotive technology, as well as celebrating HD Radio’s two decade history of innovation in the car.

HD Radio turns 20

It’s hard to believe there was a time before HD Radio delivered improved sound quality, more channels per station, and timely emergency alerts – all without subscription fees for consumers – in cars across the country. But that was the case until 2005 when HD Radio was first introduced in BMWs. Xperi marked the milestone at the show with a timeline showing HD Radio’s remarkable growth over the years, with the tech now in 115 million cars and 60% of new vehicles shipped in North America.

The Xperi booth also featured two striking vehicles with HD Radio: a 2025 Harley-Davidson Road Glide and a 2025 Hyundai Genesis G70. The Genesis went even further by showcasing DTS AutoStage, the next-gen in-car media platform which complements HD Radio by delivering a content-first, visually rich radio experience. Overall, the NAB Show proved to be the perfect setting to celebrate HD Radio’s past, present and future.

Broadcaster technologies shine bright

For the broadcaster community, Xperi had several interactive and informative demos that highlighted the tools it offers to help broadcasters succeed in an increasingly competitive marketplace.

The first was the DTS AutoStage Broadcaster Portal. This portal provides access to unique FM/HD Radio/DAB+ audience insights and analytics that can enhance content programming and listener engagement. The AIM Radio and AIM Player demo showed how these tools bring radio, podcast, and video content to users’ devices with apps for iOS, Android, cars, smart speakers, and connected TVs. Finally, Xperi presented RAPID, which manages and delivers broadcaster visual radio services across all platforms, enhancing content with licensed album artwork from TiVo.

As big as these solutions seem, and as much as they can accomplish, they really do work for broadcasters big and small. This important point was driven home by Joe D’Angelo, Xperi’s senior vice president of broadcast radio & digital audio, and George Cernat, Xperi’s senior director of automotive connected media, when they delved into the possibilities at NAB’s Small and Medium Market Radio Forum.

In recognition of innovation

Second only to showcasing game changing technology is being recognized for it. At this year’s NAB Show Xperi’s Mike Raide and Jeff Baird, along with independent consultant Alan Jurison, won the NAB Best Paper Award at the NAB Broadcast Engineering and Information Technology Conference. The trio’s innovative work, titled “Digital-Only Boosters for HD Radio Single-Frequency Networks”, introduced the first high-power digital-only booster using Gen4 HD Radio hardware, which allows for the transmission of a digital-only HD Radio signal without any traditional FM component. The award-winning paper explored potential uses, optimal implementation, and the effect on both analog and digital signal in real-world situations, and further served as testament of Xperi’s commitment to advancing radio technology.

As it does nearly every year, the 2025 NAB Show proved that broadcast, media, and entertainment have a bright future ahead. Xperi takes great pride in being able to shape broadcasting’s future by providing solutions that help radio stations stand out to their audiences.
