Xperi employees in New York City celebrated pride with a walking tour by Pride Tours NYC that narrated the history of The Stonewall Uprising and the rise of our modern-day LGBTQ+ pride movement.

The tour started in Christopher Park, continued through other sites of LGBTQ+ historical significance and concluded at The Stonewall Inn with some drinks.

“Growing up in the NYC suburbs I was fortunate to spend lots of time in the city,” said Greg Macken, Sr. Manager, Ad Planning. “Although I was always aware of and knew the significance of the pride movement, especially in Greenwich Village, there were many significant details that I was amazed to learn on the tour. It was a wonderful way to spend the afternoon with my coworkers/friends.”

“As a native New Yorker, it was fascinating to hear how New York, and specifically Greenwich Village, was supposed to be a safe place for gay people in the 60s and 70s,” said Nicole Malitz, Director, Publisher Development. “Fifty-three years after The Stonewall Uprising, we have certainly come a long way when it comes to the acceptance of the LGBTQ community. It is important that we continue to educate and treat people equally; no matter what their gender, gender expression, or sexuality.”

You can watch a documentary of Pride Tour NYC’s tour combined with footage from the June 2, 2020 Black Lives Matter protest that took place in front of The Stonewall Inn on Amazon Prime Video.
